Project Overview
The Highways Agency’s newly designed type 354 ERT (Emergency Roadside Telephone) signalled the replacement of England’s 6500+ ERT’s.
Challenge
With 6500+ ERT units nationwide requiring regular maintenance and service, GAI-Tronics required an interfacing device that was reliable, affordable and effective. The introduction of the Type 354 ERT demanded a new set of supporting sub-systems.
Solution
GAI-Tronics produce and maintain England’s new Type 354 Emergency Roadside Telephones (ERT’s).The development of the type 354 ERT included the parallel development of several supporting sub-systems.
Produced by GAI-Tronics, the new ERT’s are maintained through the ERT’s integrated SDIO IrDA card.
In partnership with TSL, GAI-Tronics utilize the 1061 SDIO IrDA card as a part of their ERT setup. This provides a fast, wireless connection used to upload software, configuration parameters and collect fault logs.
Regular ERT maintenance and service is carried out by engineers, using Engineer’s Terminals (ET’s) a link can be established with the ERT, equipped with TSL’s 1061 SDIO IrDA Card.
Result
By utilising TSL’s 1061 SDIO IrDA card, engineers can update, check and service ERT’s on the spot, saving time and minimizing system cost.
Comment
“We use the IRDA device as an integral part of the telephone to provide a link to an Engineer’s terminal, which allows us to perform diagnostics on the telephone and to update the software it contains.”
