What is RAIN® RFID?

RAIN RFID is a wireless technology that connects billions of everyday items to the internet, enabling businesses and consumers to identify, locate, authenticate, and engage each item. RAIN RFID uses the GS1 UHF Gen2 protocol which ISO/IEC has standardised as 18000-63. All of TSL’s current UHF RFID Readers are RAIN RFID compatible.

The New 3166 Reader

The new 3166 Rugged RAIN® RFID UHF Reader boasts TSL’s latest hardware innovations and performance improvements, in a more efficient reader with a longer battery life.

Using the latest generation of Impinj silicon, read rates have been boosted up to 1200 tags per second. TSL’s hardware-based Deduplication Filter prevents overwhelming the connected host with information.

Multiple tag operations per tag are possible during an inventory scan – read multiple areas of each tag, or write to or even lock the tag. Compatible with passive sensor transponders (temperature, strain, humidity, acceleration) from HID and others – contact TSL for information regarding how to utilise these sensor transponders.

Designed to read and write to EPC Class 1 Gen 2 and EPC Class 1 Gen 2V2 tags, the 3166 can also be configured with class leading high performance 2D data scanning to bring unparalleled data collection capabilities to any host it is connected to.

The 3166 is a tough and rugged, high performance, RAIN RFID compatible UHF reader. It is highly resistant to water, dust and mechanical trauma. A high capacity battery provides non-stop operation of the reader over the full working day.

Performance Boosts

  • Powered by the latest Impinj E710 chip for cutting edge RFID performance and increased efficiency
  • Scan up to 1200 tags per second – up to 6x faster than previous models!
  • Better rate of tag acquisition in high density tag environments
  • Improved tag de-duplication capability – 10x better performance over previous generations
  • Faster performance thanks to per tag batch commands (read multiple areas of memory banks, write and lock etc)
  • Longer operating times and more tags read in a single charge. Up to 34% increase in battery life compared to the previous generation 2166 Reader.
